Weekend Update

Weekends are starting to get busy in Todos Santos, Pescadero and La Paz with films, anniversaries, live music and open readings.

mini ciclo de cineFriday, November 18 is the first night of “Mini-Ciclo de Cine” in La Encantada galeria y cava, La Paz. Enjoy a glass of wine, tapas or ensalada caprese while watching “Viva Zapata” directed by Elia Kazan, 1955. Film starts at 7 pm, admission is free. The gallery is located at Belasario Dominguez #1245, between 5 de Mayo and Constitution.

Rancho PescaderoSaturday, November 19 Rancho Pescadero is celebrating their 2nd Anniversary with live music and dinner in their Garden Restaurant. Enjoy salad, arrachera tacos, wood oven pizza, quesadillas and happy hour drink prices for the whole event. There will be games like loteria and prizes like dinners at our restaurant, Rancho Caps. Great food, live music, games and prizes, and margaritas!

tortugas  sea turtlesSaturday night is also “Noche de Tortugas” in La Esquina, on the otro lado of Todos Santos. Presented by Tortugeros las Playitas A.C. with a documentary by Ira Nevis Productions. Recommend donation 65 pesos. Serving rico super burros and drinks.

Feel like dancing? Enjoy the jazz under the stars with The Jazz Band Ensemble at the Sky Bar, Hotel Guaycura in the Todos Santos historic district.

Or dance the night away to the sounds of “Bluz Explozion” in the bar at Hotel California.

Sunday afternoon enjoy listening to local writers present their works or come share your own at the Open Reading at Michael’s at the Gallery. Readings start at 4 pm, hats or some type of sunshade are recommended. Drinks available for purchase.

The Hotel California in Todos Santos will host the first ever Todos Santos Music Festival, a charity concert featuring Peter Buck of REM and a number of his many musical friends including:  Steve Wynn, Robyn Hitchcock, and Scott McCaughey.  All proceeds from the festival will benefit The Palapa Society of Todos Santos, A.C.

The fun-filled music festival will take place over the course of 3 weeks in January 2012,

featuring live music 4 nights per week.  Each week will feature a special guest artist and Peter Buck of REM will play in every band.  Admission is free.  A limited number of reserved tables will be available for every show through The Hotel California with a suggested charitable donation of $5 per seat.  For more information and reservations contact Hotel California at info@hotelcaliforniabaja.com. The Minus 5

Peter Buck is a founding member of the internationally acclaimed rock band REM.  For years he has worked to support other artists in the music business by touring and recording with very talented individuals including seminal alternative artist Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate, Miracle 3), renowned English singer-songwriter Robyn Hitchcock (The Soft Boys, Robyn Hitchcock and The Egyptians), Pacific Northwest star Scott McCaughey (Young Fresh Fellows and REM supporting guitar player), the legendary drummer Bill Rieflin (Ministry, KMFMD, and REM supporting drummer), originating from the Minneapolis scene, rock drummer extraordinaire Linda Pitmon (ZuZu’s petals, Miracle 3, The Baseball Project), and popular Seattle guitarist John Ramberg (Model Rockets, The Trip Wires).

The Palapa Society of Todos Santos, A.C., founded in 2003, is a multi-cultural, non-profit Mexican Civil Association.  The mission is the development and administration of scholarship, educational, medical and environmental programs for the benefit of local children and their families.

This Friday, November 11, starting at 8 pm, La Encantada galeria y cava invites the sons and daughters of Bacchus to sample 4 wines from Cava del Patron accompanied by tapas of prosciutto, fruits and cheese for only 230 pesos per person. Spaces are limited, call 612 14 00 3 91 to reserve. La Encantada is located on Belasario Domiguez between 5 de Mayo and Constitution in La Paz (one block up from the malecon).

Wind and C at Suki’s Grand Opening is Tuesday, November 15. Chef Carolen created her menu by scanning the globe around the Tropic of Cancer, sharing flavors of Mexico, India, Morocco, and Africa, she is also offering a few of Suki’s Asian specialties. We can’t wait to sample her treats! Wind and C at Suki’s servings lunch 11 am to 2 pm and dinner 5:30 to 9 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. Reservations are appreciated.

Welcome to the new blog of Journal del PacificoLa Revista del Pacifico serving Baja California Sur.

Journal del PacificoLa Revista del Pacifico, both online and print versions, showcases the stories and culture of Baja California Sur (told through writing, poetry, music, photography, paintings, film and visual arts) and the blending of cultures.

This season, we will publish five all-color, all glossy issues with more copies and expanded
coverage. We will continue to distribute in fine locations in Todos Santos/Pescadero, La Paz, Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo and the corridor. We will also distribute more copies in more locations in the Cabo area and add limited distribution in Los Barriles, Las Ventanas and El Triunfo.

We will also be introducing our all new website/blog featuring area information, events, articles, maps, downloadable issues and links to our client’s website.
